CHS Students Spread Holiday Cheer
This past Saturday on December 4th, “Old Towne Caledonia” hosted the annual holiday tradition of Christmas in Caledonia. Starting at 4:00 pm, local businesses handed out various treats and welcomed the community before the parade began at 6:00 pm and went until 7:00 pm.
Marching in the light parade, the band played “Jingle Bells” in order to spread holiday cheer. As a tradition, many students also wore decorative string lights, Rudolf noses, and holiday hats. Senior band student Stephanie Wrogg said, “I love the energy and the environment created by the people there, the spirit, and the costumes.”
Following the parade, the Caledonia Dance & Music Center performed one of their dances from the Nut Cracker, which will be performed in full on December 11th and 12th at the Duncan Lake Performing Arts Center.
Milling about, event-goers then waited for the tree lighting ceremony to begin. High school choir students met in front of the Farmer’s Elevator before their performance and then sang several carols including “Joy to the World,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and “Jazzy Bells.” Senior choir member Kensey DeVries said that “it was fun to have people record us and see how much they enjoyed our carols.”
Amidst the tree lighting ceremony, kids and adults alike could go take pictures with Santa. Next to the Farmer’s Elevator, the Caledonia Kiwanis Club set up a tent and hosted this activity, handing out candy canes and activity books from the Caledonia Library after kids got their picture taken on Santa’s lap.
From young kids, to high school students, to adults, Christmas in Caledonia brought the community together to begin the season of joy and giving.
