Scots Defeat the Dogs!
On Thursday, October 17th, the Caledonia High School varsity volleyball team defeated Grandville 3-1 after a long battle. The Scots fought long and hard against the Bulldogs to come back from being down 0-1 and win the next three sets. Leading the Scots were Lydia, with 29 assists, 9 kills, 12 digs, 7 blocks, and one ace, Ella Moorlag with 22 digs, and Audrey Torres with 13 digs, 1 ace, and 13 kills. Though the team won, they believe that there is improvement that can be made along the lines of communication. Hope Morehouse believes that “we definitely should have minimized our errors and communicated more so the score wasn’t so close and also put the ball away faster.” Amber Jakiel hopes that in the future, the team is able to “start faster and better their energy in the games ahead.” On the other hand, Tori Melpolder says that “we did very well communicating and simply playing the game.” When Lydia Harper was getting ready to hit a ball in the seam but there was a miscommunication between her and Ella Moorlag ending with a hit to the head with her platform. This season, the girls are 2-3 in the OK Red Conference. Their next game will be played at home at 7 pm against West Ottawa.
