Lowell Caledonia Hockey Opens Season
The Lowell Caledonia hockey team opened the season with a pair of games on Friday, November 19th and Saturday, November 20th. Despite coming up short in both, the team displayed potential for improvement.
The student section showed up in large numbers at the Kentwood Ice Arena to support Lowell Caledonia in the home opener versus the Jenison team. In a physical game that included multiple penalties, the Wildcats offense was too much and LC fell 10-3.
Bounce back was the theme on Saturday as LC took on Kenowa Hills. In a much closer game, the defenses were dominant and LC fought until the end but fell 2-1. On Wednesday, November 24th the team had another tough loss 9-1 at Mona Shores.
“We are gonna do better from here on out,” junior forward Alex Skibinski asserted in reflection of the losses. Alex is one of fifteen student-athletes from Caledonia, alongside two from Lowell and one from Thornapple Kellogg. They are led by head coach Dan Swink and assistant coach Nolan Lockhart, and located in the OK Conference Baum alongside East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills Central, Forest Hills Northern-Eastern, Grand Rapids Christian, and Mona Shores.
Lowell Caledonia will return home in a battle for their first win of the season on Friday, December 3rd, against Plymouth. The game will begin at 8:00pm at the Kentwood Ice Arena.
