It’s Exam Week. Here’s What to Know.

The end of the first semester means it is time for exams at CHS. There will be two exams per day from January 12th to the 14th. First and second hour exams will take place on Wednesday (12th), third and fourth hour will be on Thursday (13th), and then fifth and sixth hour on Friday (14th).

The school day will begin at the normal time of 7:45 a.m. The first exam of the day will last until 9:15 a.m. when students will be given a fifteen-minute break. The second exam will also be 90 minutes, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 11:00 a.m. At that point, the school day will be over, as the exams will be taken on a half-day schedule.

“The buses will run at normal times but students without a ride after school ends will need to stay in the cafeteria until they arrive,” assistant principal Mrs. Scott said in an interview.

Those in need of a snack do not need to worry, as there will be something available for students that are waiting.

In the event of a snow day on one of the exam days, “it is likely that exams would either get delayed by a day or maybe we would squeeze three into one day,” according to Mrs. Scott.

When asked about how she is feeling going into the exams, senior Katie Clarey said, “I am definitely not excited, and I’ve got some nerves, but my teachers have been doing a pretty good job preparing me.”

In an email sent out to students and parents, principal Mr. Martin announced that “exams will be scored and applied to the student’s overall course grade only if they have a positive impact.” Final assessments not considered exams will still count for the overall grade.

For the multiple students who are in quarantine or are absent for another reason, each department has a different procedure. Specific teachers should be contacted for more information.

There will be no school district-wide on Monday, January 17th. The second semester will begin on the following Tuesday, after the three-day weekend.
