For the first time since 2008, the Fighting Scots football team is 5-0. Caledonia took down Grand Haven 42-13 in front of thousands of fans at the homecoming game on Friday, September 24th.

The game was back and forth in the first half; however, a rushing touchdown by junior quarterback Mason McKenzie and a pair by sophomore running back Brock Townsend gave the Scots a 22-13 lead heading into halftime. The knockout blow was delivered in the third quarter when an interception by senior Owen Graham was followed the very next play by a 66-yard rushing touchdown by Townsend, giving the Scots a 36-13 lead. A passing touchdown from McKenzie to Derek Pennington in the fourth quarter settled the final score: 42-13 Caledonia.

When asked about the event, senior safety Aidan Kowatch stated, “The atmosphere at the game was awesome. It was so cool to see everybody from the community and all of the students come out and support something that we have put so much work into.” After being asked if the great start to the season was expected, Kowatch continued, “I think that we knew that we had the pieces to have a great team this year and obviously we go into every game with the confidence that we can come out with a win, but I think it was pretty amazing for everybody that we have had so much success so far.”

The Scots begin a two-game road stretch this Friday when they play at West Ottawa (0-5) before they travel to Rockford (5-0) next week in a battle at the top of the OK Red. Caledonia’s final home game will be the Good Samaritan Game on October 15th vs. Jenison.
